Modified recombinant protein derived from Streptococcus pneumoniae PBP2x, referred to as mini-PBP2x, consisting of a concatenation of the fragments corresponding, respectively, to the amino acids located between positions 74 to 90, 186 to 199, 218 to 228 and 257-750, with reference to the sequence of the PBP2x protein of the strain R6 (SWISSPROT P14677 or GENBANK 18266817), each one of said fragments being preceded by a peptide fragment of 1 to 7 amino acids, and uses of said mini-PBP2x protein for selecting and identifying antibiotics which are active on .beta.-lactam-resistant strains of S. pneumoniae.

Cette invention porte sur une protéine recombinante modifiée, dérivée de la protéine PBP2x de Streptococcus pneumoniae, appelée mini-PBP2x, et caractérisée en ce qu'elle est constituée par la concaténation de fragments correspondant respectivement aux acides aminés situés entre les positions 74 à 90, 186 à 199, 218 à 228 et 257 à 750 sur la séquence de la protéine PBP2x de la souche R6 (SWISSPROT P14677 ou GENBANK 18266817), chacun desdits fragments étant précédé d'un fragment peptidique comprenant entre 1 et 7 acides aminés. Cette mini-protéine PBP2x peut être utilisée pour la sélection et l'identification d'antibiotiques actifs sur les souches de S. pneumoniae résistantes aux .beta.-lactamines.
