A novel strain of Streptomyces galbus that produces metabolites and exhibits pesticidal activity is disclosed. In addition, a supernatant of the novel strain with pesticidal activity is disclosed. An ethyl acetate-soluble, small molecular weight, alkali stable, metabolite produced by the novel strain Streptomyces galbus with pesticidal activity against lepidopteran insects is provided. Also included are methods for fermenting the novel strain of Streptomyces galbus and increasing the bioactivity of the pesticidal activity. Also included are methods for protecting or treating plants from caterpillars comprising the step of applying to a plant an effective amount of the novel streptomyces galbus train, the metabolites produced by the strain, or a combination thereof.
Cette invention concerne une nouvelle souche de Streptomyces galbus qui produit des m~tabolites et qui pr~sente une activit~ pesticide. La pr~sente invention porte ~galement sur surnageant de cette souche ~ activit~ pesticide. Elle concerne un m~tabolite soluble dans l'ac~tate d'~thyle, de faible poids mol~culaire, ~ stabilit~ alcaline, qui est produit par une nouvelle souche deStreptomyces galbus et qui pr~sente une activit~ insecticide contre les l~pidoptres. Sont ~galement d~crits des proc~d~s de fermentation de la souche de Streptomyces galbus et d'accentuation de la bioactivit~ de l'activit~ insecticide. L'invention porte en outre sur des m~thodes de protection ou de traitement de plantes contre les chenilles, qui consiste ~ appliquer ~ la plante une dose efficace de la souche de streptomyces galbus, de m~tabolites produits par la souche ou d'une combinaison des deux.
