ABSTRACT A resin composition comprising: 20 to 80 weight percent polyphenylene ether with recurring units of general formula (I) or (I) and (II): (I) Image (II) Image wherein R1 to R6, independently, represent H, halogen, (Cl-C4)alkyl, excluding -C(CH3)3, or aryl, with the proviso that R5 and R6 do not represent H simultaneously; and 80 to 20 weight percent of a butadiene-based-rubber reinforced high impact polystyrene. The polyphenylene ether has an intrinsic viscosity [n] in the range of from 0.50 to 0.80, when measured at 30°C in a chloroform solution, and its elution by gel permeation chromatography is not more than 8 weight percent, relative to polystyrene of molecular weight <10,000. If desired, a vinyl aromatic compound polymer resin may be used with the butadiene-based-rubber reinforced high impact polystyrene. The compositions have enhanced appear- ance characteristics, such as, surface gloss and weld line appearance,.and also stress crack resistance. mab/??
