The method is for constructing a bridge with round wood logs. It comprises steps of (a) providing spaced apart sub-structure supports for a bridge deck of given length and width; (b) providing round wood logs of such a length as to extend over the full length, or be assembled from different pieces that are aligned end to end and spliced together, of the bridge deck; (c) trimming the logs to form two parallel flat faces on each of them; (d) positioning the logs in parallel relationship with the flat faces of each log in contact with the adjacent flat faces of the adjacent logs so as to form the bridge deck having a top surface and a bottom surface; (e) mounting the bridge deck onto the spaced apart supports; and (f) providing tendons made of super-strong synthetic material, each of said tendons being of a length substantially equal to the width of the bridge deck and havingopposite ends to which anchors are rigidly connected. It also comprises steps of(g) connecting the logs together with pairs of said straight tendons; (h) subjecting the tendons of each pair to an initial stressing for a short period of time, said initial stressing being applied simultaneously to all the tendons; (i) reducing the initial stressing after said short period of time and adjusting accordingly the connection of the anchors to the corresponding rigid plates; and a) surfacing the top surface of the bridge deck with a surface covering.
