ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE For use in a textile folding and stretching operation, a clamping appliance has a first pivotable clamp arm mounted on a wall or the like by a bracket and a second pivotably mounted on the first. In order to actuate the pivotable clamp arms without a separate operating lever, a spring loaded over-centre toggle lever connects the second clamp arm and the bracket. The first clamp arm is mounted displaceably on the bracket. One arm of the tog- gle lever is connected to the bracket by securing means that can be released upon displacement of the first clamp arm relative to the bracket. This en- sures against undesired opening of the clamp arms in use. Elements are pro- vided for the adjustment of the toggle linkage to adjust the insertion open- ing betueen the two clamp arms.
