2141793 9403141 PCTABS00030 An exercise machine to stretch one or more muscle groups or joints of a body part, has at least one engagement member (30) pivotally mounted on the frame (10) to engage a body part associated with the muscle group or joint that is to be stretched and to position such part at a desired location. The engagement member (30) is pivotally displaceable through a predetermined range of movement with respect to the frame (10). Movement in a first direction is effective to apply a stretching force to the associated muscle group. Movement of the engagement means (30) in the first direction is done through a linear actuator (53). An angle indicator (63) provides a readout of the position of said engagement member (30) in the range. The machine provides a way to monitor the degree of stretching of the body part by measuring the angular position of the body part in the movable member. This allows the user to monitor his progress and safely repeat the exercise at a later date. It also measures the force exerted by the user when performing the isometric contraction. This also allows the user to exercise safely and to monitor his progress.
