A striker for an automobile vehicle door includes a baseplate formed of SAE 4130 steel plate, and a generally C- or V-shaped loop (commonly referred to as a wire) formed of steel selected from the group consisting of SAE 1045, SAE 4130 and SAE 1040 steel. The wire is connected to the baseplate by hot upset, riveting or cold staking.
