69912-207 Abstract Disclosed is a striking mat for use in a golf simulator and/or for practicing strokes from the rough, and which is also suitable for practicing bunker strokes, with an artificial grass surface made from raised material substituting for grass, on which surface the golf ball is placed for striking. The mat creates realistic conditions, especially for simulating and practicing strokes from the rough, by providing a suitable hollow for the ball in the artificial grass surface of the mat so that, before hitting the ball, the club has to push aside the grass material in front of the ball in the path of the club. Practice mats presently in use have densely packed erect plastic fibres, so that when a ball is placed on the fibres, it does not sink into the fibres.
