There is disclosed an indexing mechanism for mounting and rotating a flat planar object such as a sheet of glass for work at a work station, where, e.g., a strip of adhesive material is applied to the glass. The indexing mechanism has support means which have a major face for receiving a flat planar object and which include means for spacing the planar object a distance from the major face; gripping means operatively associated with the support means for releasably engaging the planar object: drive means for actuating the gripping means to effect indexing of the gripping means between first and subsequent positions about the major face of the support means: and means for actuating the gripping means for effecting engagement and disengagement of the gripping means with the planar object. Also disclosed is an apparatus for bring two planar objects such as sheets of glass into juxtaposition with each other. This apparatus has a pair of opposed panels or the like to be joined together, and supports each of the panels or the like in an opposed relationship in a first axis, effecting pivotal movement of the opposed outer ends of the respective panels or the like toward each other while simultaneously lowering the opposed inner ends of the respective panels or the like to a second axis located in a plane inclined to the first axis, and subsequently, effects relative converging movement of the panels or the like to bring the panels into juxtaposition.
