ABSTRACT Strip form electrical terminals of the type to be engaged with complementary terminals by sliding movement during mating and unmating, each have a portion plated with contact metal extending over that part of Its surface which includes the contact zone and which extends beyond the contact zone in all directions. The plated metal on the contact zone is of a thickness sufficient to withstand wear resulting from repeated mating and unmating cycles. Portions of the plating which surround the contact zone are of a lesser thickness which is sufficient to prevent corrosion. The extent of such s?ounding portions of the plating is s?fficient to prevent encroachment of corrosion products onto the contact zone by creep of such products produced at locations remote from the contact zone. The terminals are electroplated by high speed strip plating methods and by following procedures, using a very thin linear anode, which produce the variable thickness plating in the plated areas of the terminals.
