Abstract of the Disclosure Stripping equipment is disclosed for skimming floating contaminants from bodies of liquids. A float-supported stripping knife extends through the contaminants at an acute angle to the horizontal. Air nozzles are directed towards the stripping knife for driving the floating contaminants up the knife and over its back edge into a separator housing, the upper edge of which is connected to the back edge of the knife. The housing extends above the level of the contaminants and well below the level of the liquid to be purified, where it communicates with the body of liquid to be purified. A discharge tube extends into the housing and has an inlet positioned above the level of the liquid to be purified, for collecting the contaminants from the housing.
