A structurally enhanced, insulating sheathing (10) and method of sheathing a frame of the type used in constructing a building are disclosed. In one embodiment, the sheathing includes an insulating layer of material (14) attached to a structural layer of material (12) formed of a plurality of fibers (12al-12an), preferably biased in first and second directions (D1, D2) relative to a common axis, such as the longest centerline of the sheathing. The fibers form a grid (12c) having a plurality of openings (12d) that are capable of receiving an adhesive (A3) for attaching the sheathing to a stable mounting structure, such as a frame. Preferably, the adhesive is capable of penetrating at least partially into the openings to ensure that a secure, lasting bond is formed. In a second embodiment the sheathing includes a multilayer polymer film with a low melting point adhesive thereon.
La présente invention concerne un gainage (10) isolant structurellement renforcé et un procédé de gainage d'une armature du type de celle utilisée dans la construction de bâtiment. Dans un mode de réalisation de l'invention, ce gainage comprend une couche isolante de matériau liée à une couche structurelle de matériau (12) formé d'une pluralité de fibres (12al-12an), de préférence orientées dans une première et dans une seconde direction (D1, D2) par rapport à un axe commun, tel que la ligne centrale la plus longue de ce gainage. Ces fibres forment une grille (12c) qui possède une pluralité d'ouvertures (12d), lesquelles peuvent recevoir un adhésif (A3) destiné à fixer ce gainage à une structure de montage stable, tel qu'une armature. Cet adhésif peut, de préférence, pénétrer au moins partiellement dans ces ouvertures de façon à faire en sorte qu'une liaison solide et durable soit formée. Dans un second mode de réalisation de l'invention, le gainage comprend un film polymère multicouche revêtu d'un adhésif à point de fusion bas.
