STRUCTURAL MATERIALS AND METHODS OF MAKING STRUCTURAL MATERIALS BASED ON LIME-FLY ASH-SULFITE COMPOSITIONS Abstract of the Disclosure Sulfite sludges, and particularly those resulting from lime or limestone scrubbing of coal burning furnace stack gases, are treated so as to produce a composition having a solids content of 30-90 weight %, the solids comprising 0.25-70% alkaline earth hydroxide, 10-99.5% fly ash and 0.25-70% alkaline earth sulfite. Various compositions within this broad range are hardenable to varying degrees and for varying purposes. These compositions may be admixed with aggregate or soil. They may also be formed into pellets or structural forms. Still further they may be emplaced as a road base or in an open area where fill is required. Over a period of time, these compositions harden and are thus useful as structural materials.
