ABSTRACT A self-cleaning air filtration system has a vertically oriented housing internally divided by a horizontal centerplate into an upper clean air discharge chamber, in which a filter backflushing system is disposed, and a lower contaminant chamber. Interconnected partition panels are positioned within the contaminant chamber and are intersecured between the centerplate and the housing sidewall section surrounding the contaminant chamber to thereby structurally brace the centerplate and sidewall section, and divide the contaminant chamber into a series of vertically extending contaminant subchambers having open lower ends communicating with a hopper section depending from the housing. Lower support trusses are interconnected across lower wall portions of the subchambers and carry jack screw filter mounting members connected at upper ends thereof to gimbal plates which operatively engage and support lower ends of hollow cylindrical filter elements vertically disposed within the contaminant subchambers. The upper ends of the filters are engaged and supported by the lower ends of clean air tubes extending vertically through the centerplate. The jack screws are operable to place the filters in a state of axial compression so that the mounted filters form structural bracing interconnections between the centerplate and the support trusses to further increase the rigidity of the centerplate and the filter housing. With the filters mounted in this manner their weight is borne by the support trusses rather than the centerplate. The support trusses partially block the open lower ends of the contaminant subchambers to prevent the filters from falling therethrough into the hoppers during installation or removal of the filters. The gimbal plates provide a convenient temporary support base upon which to rest the lower filter ends during filter installation or removal to thereby significantly facilitate the insertion and withdrawal of the filter elements.
