A vehicle component sub-assembly having self-aligning appropriately fitted structural members is disclosed wherein a closure member, such as a vehicle door, hood or trunk is integrated with and becomes a structural part of a vehicle body. The sub-assembly includes mating components wherein a first mating component is mounted to the vehicle body and a second mating component is mounted to the closure member in such a manner that the first and second mating components become substantially aligned and structurally engaged with one another. The first mating component includes at least one structural key member (22) formed thereon and the second mating component has a complementary mating receptacle (30) therein. When the first and second mating components are aligned into interlocking engagement, the structural key members and mating receptacles are thereby structurally integrating the vehicle body and the closure member. The structural key members (22) and mating receptacles (30) may be used with a number of vehicle component sub-assemblies such as door hinges and latches on doors; hoods, trunks, liftgates and deck lids.
L'invention concerne un sous-ensemble composant de véhicule présentant des éléments structurels autoalignés, montés de façon appropriée, dans lequel un élément de fermeture, tel qu'une porte, un capot ou un coffre de véhicule est intégré à une carrosserie de véhicule dont il devient une partie structurelle. Le sous-ensemble comprend des composants appariés dans lesquels un premier composant apparié est monté sur la carrosserie du véhicule et un second composant apparié est monté sur l'élément de fermeture de manière que les premier et second composants appariés deviennent sensiblement alignés et engagés structurellement l'un dans l'autre. Le premier composant apparié comprend au moins un élément mâle structurel (22) formé sur celui-ci et le second composant apparié présente un logement apparié complémentaire (30). Lorsque les premier et second composants appariés sont alignés en prise de verrouillage mutuel, les éléments mâles structurels et les logements appariés sont ainsi intégrés structurellement à la carrosserie du véhicule et à l'élément de fermeture. Les éléments mâles structurels (22) et les logements appariés (30) peuvent être utilisés avec un certain nombre de sous-ensembles de composants de véhicule tels que des charnières et des serrures sur des portières, des capots, des coffres, des hayons et des capots de coffre arrière.
