A B S T R A C T A multilayered window unit comprises a frame supporting spaced window panes and a flexible film, which may be heat reflective or have other properties, positioned between but not touching a pair of the panes. In order to ensure that the flexible film is smooth and wrinkle free a stretching member is provided in the unit. The stretching member is made of an elastic material and through its inherent elasticity and location it imparts a force which has at least a component acting at right angles to the plane of the flexible film, thereby stretch- ing the film. In one particular arrangement, the flexible film and the two panes are held apart by spacer members one of which is configured to retain the stretching member which pushes marginal portions of the film into engagement with a portion of the other spacer member.
