A laser processing control apparatus utilizes plurality of optical fibers (36) to monitor different areas (37) of a weld zone. The individual signals are combined to provide a number of possible control modes including focus, gap, seam following and speed control. The signals may be used as inputs to fuzzy logic or other laser control systems.
