A stud assembly for walls of buildings or the like, as well as a process of manufacturing same, is disclosed. The stud assembly includes first and second parallel spaced apart elongate members. The first and second members are connected by at least one planar webbed connecting member adapted to maintain the first and second members in parallel spaced relation. The connecting member is connected to the first and second members at a predetermined distance from the outer edges thereof. The connecting member is connected to the first and second members along central longitudinal axes thereof. The process of manufacturing a stud assembly includes the steps of: (a) forming a plurality of slits on a portion of the sheet; (b) forming the sheet into an assembly having an I-shaped cross- section;; (c) transversely expanding the slits into a web; and (d) cutting the sheet into predetermined lengths.
