A locking mechanism for use in locking together a stud and nut in a fuel channel positioning assembly in a nuclear reactor. The locking mechanism prevents the stud from rotating with respect to the tube sheet of the end shield and thereby accidentally locking or unlocking the positioning assembly. The locking mechanism fits over the distal end of the stud and clamps onto the nut to prevent the nut and stud from rotating with respect to each other.
