A B S T R A C T The stud unit of the present invention is used for skid- proof tires of vehicles. On snow- or ice-covered road, a force works to a front end of a stud contacting the road when the vehicle applies brake or accelerates, so that the stud is kept projecting from a cylinder because the projected lines of the stud and the cylinder are mutually engaged or the projected lines of the stud engage with an engage section of the cylinder. Therefore, the front end of each stud is kept projecting from the surface of the tire. Braking action is secured by the projected studs. Note that, on a dry road, the treads of the tire hold the road without slipping, so that no force works to the stud to incline, and the stud can smoothly retract into the cylinder. 1 9
