ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A stud has a first generally cylindrical portion of abrasion resistant metallic material weldable to a metal surface by stud welding equipment, the first portion having a diameter of about 0.125 to about 1.25 inches and a cylindrical wall with a height of about 0.05 to about 0.55 inch. A second generally cylindrical metallic portion is attachable to the welding equipment, the second portion having a diameter of about 0.125 to about 1.25 inch and a cylindrical wall with a height of about 0.05 to about 1.5 inches. A frangible metallic connection connects the first portion to the second portion.
