ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel color changing dye compounds are described having the general formula: Image ------(i) wherein Q represents a benzene ring with or without ring substituents and/or condensed ring(s); R1 and R2 are the same or different and represent lower alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, or alkoxyalkyl radicals; R3 represents hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, nitrile, aromatic or phenoxy; Y represents oxygen (O) or sulfur (S); Z represents an alkylene radical of 2 to 4 carbon atoms with or without alkyl substituent (S) necessary to form a ring structure together with -N-?-Y-; and A represents a condensation reaction residue of an aromatic aldehyde, heterocyclic aldehyde, aromatic nitroso compound, or hetero- cyclic nitroso compound. Processes for their production are also described.
