A push type garden weeder of the type having a transverse sub-surface blade. The weeder has a frame with an elongated blade affixed below the frame and extending transversely to the direction of travel. Operation handles are connected to the frame and project upwardly and rearwardly therefrom. An open type drum is rotatably mounted on a transverse axis forward of the blade, the drum having a length in the transverse direction substantially equal to the length of the blade. The drum may include a pair of end discs and a plurality of circumferentially spaced bars joined at opposite ends thereof adjacent the peripheries of the discs. The design provides stability of the weeder and permits the blade to remain level so that a rather effortless forward thrust is required and the weeder leaves the ground surface with an even appearance.
