A small diameter eductor suction dredge in which compressed air is injected at the suction hose intake and which utilizes the scavenging action of the eductor's discharge head through employment of an elevating discharge flume, provides the vehicle for increased depth and improved method for the open pit, cut and fill placer mining of deposits which are below ground water level, For marine placer mining, with a larger diameter eductor barge mounted and with a short section of steel suction pipe end mounted on the boom of a hydraulic excavator, an articulated mining head is created with substantial subaqueous excavation power and with a depth capacity in excess of 16 meters.
