ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention provides a welding wire composition for submerged arc welding with skelp or plate which has good cold-temperature toughness characteristics. Essentially, intead of utilizing large amounts of nickel in the welding wire (nickel being known to give good low-temperature toughness characteristics to ferritic metal), the combination of magnesium, chromium and molybdenum are utilized. These give equivalent low-temperature toughness but are less expensive than the nickel by itself. In addition, titanium in specific, small amounts has been found to considerably increase the toughness characteristics beyond those obtain- able without it.
