The invention describes a submerged sensor for use in a metallurgical vessel, such as a tundish. The sensor is positioned so that in use it is below a surface of a molten metal bath within the vessel. The sensor conveniently extends through the vessel wall and projects into the volume of the vessel. An upper end of the sensor is encased in a protective assembly. The protective assembly of the invention can be shaped so as to control the pattern of molten metal flow in the vessel or measure more accurately the molten metal exiting the vessel. Advantageously, the invention can combine the functionality required for flow pattern modification such as provided by a dam, impact pad or baffle, with the functionality required for a sensor. This combination reduces cost and complexity.
L'invention concerne un capteur immergé destiné à être utilisé dans un récipient métallurgique, tel qu'un panier de coulée. Ce capteur est disposé de sorte que, en cours d'utilisation, il se trouve sous la surface d'un bain de métal fondu à l'intérieur du récipient. Avantageusement, ce capteur s'étend à travers la paroi du récipient et fait saillie dans le volume dudit récipient. Une extrémité supérieure du capteur est enfermée dans un ensemble protecteur. L'ensemble protecteur de l'invention peut être formé de façon à réguler la structure de l'écoulement de métal fondu dans le récipient ou à mesurer plus précisément le métal fondu sortant du récipient. Avantageusement, l'invention permet de combiner la fonctionnalité requise pour une modification de la structure de l'écoulement, telle que celle obtenue au moyen d'un seuil, d'une plaque d'amortissement ou d'une chicane, avec la fonctionnalité requise pour un capteur. Cette combinaison permet d'obtenir un coût et une complexité réduits.
