ABSTRACT The invention relates to a compound having the formula Image wherein X, Y and Z independently represent hydrogen, alkyl, halo- alkyl, alkoxy, haloalkoxy, halogen, aryl, substituted aryl or two adjacent substituents are bonded together in a saturated five, six or seven-membered cyclic structure. The compounds are useful as intermediates in the preparation of 1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a] pyrimidine derivatives which are herbicidally active.
