A B S T R A C T Substituted 1.3-diphenoxypropan-2-ol derivatives of the formula Image (2) in which R1 is C1 or -C(CH3)3; A is a single bond, vinylene or ethylene; and R4 = -COOR"', wherein R"' is n-butyl, n-pentyl, n-hexyl, 2,3-dihydroxypropyl, 2,2- dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl-methyl, pivaloyloxymethyl, benzyl or phenyl; or -CO-NRivRv, where either Riv = Rv, and each is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl or one of Riv and Rv is hydrogen and the other is methyl or ethyl having a strong lipid-lowering action coupled with good tolerance.
