ABSTRACT New substituted 1,8-dihydroxy-9-(10H)-anthracenones of the general formula: Image (I) wherein R1 to R4, which may be the same or different, represent halogen atoms, branched alkyl groups or cycloalkyl groups or from one to three of the radicals R1 to R4 represent a hydrogen atom are disclosed, as well as processes for the preparation of such compounds by alkylation or halogenation of the corresponding 1,8-dihydroxy-9-(10H)-anthracenones. The new anthracenones exhibit antipsoriatic activity, while being compatible with the skin and not colorizing skin or clothing.
