Provided are substituted 2-(2,6-dioxopiperidin- 3-yl)-phthalimides which reduce the levels of TNF.alpha. in a mammal, for example of the following formula: (see above formula) in which: one of X and Y is C=O and the other of X and Y is C=O or CH2; one of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is -NHR5 and the remaining of R1, R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen; R5 is hydrogen; R6 is hydrogen or methyl; R7 is m-phenylene, for example; each of R8 and R9 taken independently of the other is hydrogen, for example; R10 is hydrogen, for example.

On propose des 2-(2,6-dioxopipéridin-3-yl)-phtalimides substitués qui réduisent les concentrations de TNF-alpha chez un mammifère, par exemple des composés de formule (voir la formule ci-dessus) : où X ou Y est un C=O, et l'autre, de X ou de Y, est un C=O ou un CH2; R1, R2, R3 ou R4 est un -NHR5, et les autres, parmi R1, R2, R3 et R4, sont de l'hydrogène; R5 est de l'hydrogène; R6 est de l'hydrogène ou un méthyle; R7 est un m-phénylène, par exemple; R8 et R9, indépendamment l'un de l'autre, sont des atomes d'hydrogène, par exemple; R10 est de l'hydrogène, par exemple.
