62957-228 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A new class of substituted 2,3-naphthalenedicarbox- aldehydes (NDA) is disclosed. Such compounds are of the formula: Image wherein one or more of R1-R8 are various substituting groups. The above compounds react, in the presence of cyanide ion, with compounds containing primary amino groups to form adducts such as compounds of the formula Image which exhibit a high florescent yield and thus are readily detected and measured by fluorometric assaying techniques.
