72222-141 ABSTRACT Disclosed are substituted chromans of the formula: Image --- (I) (wherein X is CH2 or O Y and Y1 together form CO or Y is H and Y1 is hydroxyl or acyloxy; R1 is aromatic or heteroaromatic group; and R1 is phenyl or heteroaromatic group; and R2 is methyl or (substituted) phenyl or R1 is (substituted) naphthyl and R2 is hydrogen, methyl or (substituted) phenyl) which by inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase enzyme are useful in the prevention or treatment of asthma, arthritis, psoriasis, ulcers, myocardial infarction, stroke and related disease states in mammals.
