Abstract of the Disclosure This invention is concerned with compounds of the formula Image wherein R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 7 carbon atoms and R2 is phenyl halophenyl, trifluoro- methylphenyl, p-alkoxyphenyl wherein the alkoxy group contains from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, p-(2-alkoxycarbc)nylprop-2-yloxy)- phenyl wherein the alkoxy group contains from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, or 3,4,5-trialkoxyphenyl wherein the alkoxy group contains from 1 to 7 carbon atoms. The compounds of this inven- tion are prepared by the condensation of an ester of 2-(4-formyl- phenoxy)-2,2-dimethylacetic acid with an appropriate substi- tuted phenyl acetonitrile. The compounds of the present invention are useful as hypolipemic agents.
