ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: The invention relates to the preparation of an acetal of 2,2-dialkyl-3-formyl-cyclopropanoic ester of the formula (VIII): Image (VIII) wherein each R is independently a C1 to C4 alkyl group, R1, R2 and R3 are independently hydrogen or C1 to C10 alkyl. Such a compound of formula (VIII) can be used to prepare a corresponding free aldehyde which can in turn be used as an intermediate in the preparation of insecticides of the Pyrethroid class.
