ABSTRACT Macrocyclic polyethers according to the general formula: Image wherein A1 is hydrocarbon; D is O,S, hydrocarbon or NR (R is H, hydrocarbon, hydrocarbon sulphonyl, alkoxycarbonyl-methylene or carboxymethylene); ? 2 D are O, S or NR; R1 is 11, alkyl or carboxy: m,n is 0-5 and Z is Image wherein k = 0 or 1; R2, R3 are 11 or alkyl, and the corresponding salts are novel compounds which may be used in aqueous compositions for dissolving water-insoluble compounds such as barium sulphate, natural barite and calcium sulphate.
