2176????9 ABSTRACT Substituted nucleoside derivatives of the general formula Image (I) or Image (II) wherein B represents a pyrimidine, a purine, a benzimidazole, an imidazole or a triazole, R3, represents an oxathiole, a cyclo- pentylalkyl or a cyclohexylalkyl group and R2, and R5', which are the same or different, each represent a trimethylsilyl, tert-butyldimethylsilyl, tert-butyldiphenylsilyl, dimethyl- phenylsilyl, alkyl, aryl or phenylalkyl group, or another highly lipophylic moiety, are useful antiviral agents particularly against AIDS.
