Abstract of the Invention Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-ulcer activity. containing as an active ingredient d compound of the formula Image or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein Het is a heteroaromatic group (substituted or unsubstituted). containing one or more nitrogen atolls as hetero atoms and no more than two rings; X is a cyano, trifluoromethyl or an amido group with the formula -C(A)NR1R2, wherein A is oxygen or sulphur, R1 is hydrogen or a C1-4 alkyl group, R2 is hydrogen or a C1-4 alkyl group, or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a 5- to 6-membered heterocyclic ring in which another hetero atom may be present; and R is C1-6 alkyl, C5-6 cycloalkyl, C5-8 cycloalkylalkyl, C3-6 alkenyl, C3-4 alkynyl, phenyl C1-3 alkyl, the phenyl group being optionally substituted by one or more C1-6 alkyl, halogen, C1-6 alkoxy, nitro, cyano or trifluoromethyl groups, a carbamidoalkyl group with the formula -(CH2)mC(O)NR3R4 wherein m = 1 or 2, R3 is hydrogen or C1-3 alkyl, R4 is hydrogen or C1-3 alkyl, or R3 and R4 together with the nitrogen aton to which they are attached form a 5- to 6-membered heterocyclic ring in which another hetero atom mdy be present, or cyano C1-3 alkyl, or an N-oxide or Pharmaceutically acceptable salt theleof; novel compounds of the said formula and methods for preparing these compounds.
