Novel substituted phenylpropionic acid derivatives of the general formula (1), which bind to human peroxisome proliferator activated receptor .alpha. (PPAR .alpha. ) as ligand to activate the receptor and thereby exhibit a potent lipid-decreasing effect; and use thereof as drugs: (1) wherein R1 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, optionally substituted phenyl, optionally substituted phenoxy, or optionally substituted benzyloxy; R2 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, or lower alkoxy; R3 is lower alkoxy; and A is -CH2CONH- , -NHCOCH2-, -CH2CH2CO-, CH2CH2CH2-, -CH2CH2O-, -CONHCH2-, -CH2NHCH2-, -COCH2O-, -OCH2CO-, -COCH2NH-, or NHCH2CO-.

Nouveaux dérivés substitués d'acide phénylpropionique de formule générale (1) qui se lient au récepteur alpha activé par les proliférateurs du péroxysome humain (PPAR alpha ) en tant que ligand pour activer ce récepteur et qui présentent de ce fait un puissant effet de réduction des lipides, ainsi que l'utilisation desdits dérivés en tant que médicaments. Dans la formule (1), R<1> est alkyle inférieur, alcoxy inférieur, trifluorométhyle, trifluorométhoxy, phényle éventuellement substitué, phénoxy éventuellement substitué ou benzyloxy éventuellement substitué, R<2> est hydrogène, alkyle inférieur ou alcoxy inférieur, R<3> est alcoxy inférieur et A est CH2CONH-, -NHCOCH2-, -CH2CH2CO-, CH2CH2CH2, -CH2CH2O-, -CONHCH2-, -CH2NHCH2-, -COCH2O-, -OCH2CO-, -COCH2NH-, ou NHCH2CO-.
