- 1 - Abstract of the disclosure: The invention relates to compounds of the formula I Image (I) in which R1 and R2 are identical or different and are hydrogen, alkyl, trifluoromethyl, halogen, alkoxycarbo- nyl, alkoxy or alkanoyl, R3, R4 and R5 are identical or different and are hydrogen, methyl, alkoxy or alkoxyethoxy, and R is hydrogen or a group SR6, in which R6 is the lone, unpaired electron of the 12-sulfenyl radical, hydro- gen, optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, al- kanoyl, optionally mono- or poly-substituted benzoyl, fuoryl, phenacyl, phenoxyacetyl, phenylacetyl or another conventional thiol-protective group, and to physiologically acceptable salts thereof, and to processes for their preparation, to their use and to pharmaceutical preparations based on these compounds. Due to their excellent properties, the substitu- ted pyrido(1,2-c)imidazo(1,2-a)benzimidazoles and their pharmacologically acceptable salts are outstandingly suitable for use in human and veterinary medicine, and they are used especially for the treatment and prophy- laxis of gastro-intestinal diseases and those diseases which are caused by excessive gastric acid secretion.
