The invention relates to a substrate for a soil-free cultivating or growing of plants. The substrate comprises slab (2) of fibrous material. Further quantification means (5) are provided. The quantification means allow for essentially non-destructive visualisation and/or monitoring of plant development. Thus plant growth, especially root growth can be monitored, where such monitoring no longer requires the sacrifice of any plants.

L'invention concerne un substrat prévu pour cultiver ou faire pousser des plantes hors sol. Ledit substrat comprend une plaque (2) de matériau fibreux. Il est prévu en outre des moyens de quantification (5). Lesdits moyens de quantification permettent d'assurer une visualisation et/ou un contrôle essentiellement non destructif du développement des plantes. La croissance des plantes et notamment celles des racines peut ainsi être contrôlée, ce type de contrôle n'impliquant plus de devoir sacrifier certaines plantes.
