ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Described herein is a process for preparing substrates impregnated with thermosetting synthetic resins, for hot- pressing for the purpose of finishing the surface of wood materials, which comprises carrying out the metering of the heat treatment and the settings of the B time of the thermo- setting resins used by calculation, with weighting the action of the drying temperature and the heat treatment, inherent in the preparation, in accordance with experimentally determined B time characteristics, and taking into account the intended subsequent processing by pressing, by weighting the action of the ?ssing temperature in accordance with the B time characteristics of the thermosetting resins used, which are catalyzed by the given substrate if appropriate, with a view to achieving optimum degrees of curing. Suitable thermo- setting resin compositions for use in the above process are those which have a B time at 140°C in the range of about 45 to 75 seconds and preferably about 60 seconds, and for which the increase of the B time at 125°C and the decrease in such time at 155°C is of the order of <30 seconds.
