SUBSTRATES PROVIDED WITH A STRUCTURED SURFACE FOR GROWING SOLIDIFYING LAYERS FROM MELTS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Substrates are provided for growing solidifying melts which have contact surfaces which are elevated with respect to the substrate parent surface and which are so distributed that the growing melt layer rests on them and is held apart from the parent surface in a self-supporting manner by surface tension. These sub- strates are advantageously employed for growing semiconductor material layers, in particular based on silicon, and are particularly suitable for processes for producing solar cell base material in which the spontaneous stripping of the grown layer is necessary.
