"The primary purpose of the "subway retractable safety barrier" from hereon it will be referred to as the retractable safety barrier is two fold. First it acts as a safety measure to keep passengers back from the subway train pit, thereby minimizing accidental falls, suicides and intentional pushoffs. Second and equally important this retractable safety barrier acts as a crowd flow apparatus which maximizes the flow of passengers out from subway trains as quickly as possible and inflow as efficiently as possible. Pushing, squeezing, butting, encroaching on other passengers is brought to a minimum as inflow and outflow efficiency is maximized thereby allowing for subway trains to keep closer to their schedules. This minimizes train delays increasing and maximizing passenger delivery. Passenger flow and delivery can be so improved, it can equal to adding a totally new train line without the high cost of building one, especially with the added concept exemplified in drawing #4 ("Retrofit Subway System")"
