A medical suction and irrigation apparatus includes a suction/irrigation tip removably connected to a conventional suction/irrigation handpiece. Suction is provided through a suction tube which has a bypass conduit in the tip. The bypass conduit is directly connectable to a suction source so that aspirated debris passes through the tip to the suction source. The suction tube thus prevents aspirated debris from entering the conventional suction tube in the handpiece and contaminating the handpiece. The suction tube is also designed to have a maximum size to prevent the tip from clogging. The tip also has an irrigation tube for directing irrigation liquid to the irrigation site, and a connector which connects the irrigation tube to the handpiece so that the handpiece pumps fluid through the tip in a conventional manner. A flexible splash shield, slidably mounted to the irrigation tube, confines irrigation fluid to the local site.

L'invention porte sur un appareil d'aspiration et d'irrigation comportant un embout d'aspiration/irrigation réversiblement relié à une pièce à main d'aspiration/irrigation classique. L'aspiration de fait par un tube comportant un conduit de dérivation à l'intérieur de l'embout. Le conduit de dérivation peut se raccorder directement à une source d'aspiration de manière à permettre aux débris aspirés de traverser l'embout en direction de la source d'aspiration. Le tube d'aspiration empêche ainsi l'entrée des débris dans le tube d'aspiration classique de la pièce à main, et la contamination de cette dernière. Le tube d'aspiration est de plus conçu pour présenter une taille maximale pour empêcher l'engorgement de l'embout. L'embout présente en outre un tube d'irrigation dirigeant le liquide d'irrigation sur le site à irriguer et un connecteur qui relie le tube d'irrigation à la pièce à main qui ainsi pompe le liquide à travers l'embout d'une manière classique. Un pare éclaboussures souple monté coulissant sur le tube d'irrigation confine le fluide d'irrigation autour du site à irriguer.
