ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a suction dredger having a central hold and air chambers located on both sides of the hold, which central hold has an overflow to the outside of the hull and an overflow to the air chambers. The last- mentioned overflow is controlled by valves for opening and closing, respectively this overflow, valving being provided for unloading the central hold. The known suction dredger has a complicated hull construction to allow overflow from the central hold to the outside of the hull or into the air chambers. To empty the air chambers suction tubes are placed at the bottom level of the air chambers. The air chambers can be used to receive a dredged mixture in case the specific weight of this mixture is low and then serve to increase the volume for taking up dredged mixture. According to the present invention a simpler construction of the hull is possible which can be applied to existing suction dredgers by providing the air chambers with bottom walls that incline downwardly towards the central hold and by providing discharge valves between the air chambers and the central hold at the bottom of the air chambers.
