A suction machine for removing bedding ballast of a track by suction has two ballast stores (17,18), each having its own suction and discharge opening (35,36), a suction pipe (10) being associated with the said ballast stores for drawing the ballast up by suction. A separate sealing element (44,45) is associated in each case with at least one suction opening (35-38) to produce an optional air-tight seal. This enables the ballast stores (17,18) to be emptied alternately without interrupting the suction action.
