Abstract A suction sound damper for a slide piston refrigerant compressor comprises a plastics housing (107). The latter consists of two interconnected shells (108, 109). The suction nipple (10) is of a material having a higher thermal resistance than the shell material and passes through the connecting gap of the shells and is clamped between them. The shells (108, 109) are flat and are interconnected substantially in the region of the largest cross- section of the housing. The connection of the shells takes place not only at the rim (45) but also at least at part of the inter- mediate walls (128, 138, 140, 55). The connection can be brought about by ultrasonic welding. Altogether, one obtains an economi- cal suction sound damper which meets high requirements as far as quality is concerned. Fig. 2
