ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A novel, water-soluble, sulfated vinyl monomer is presented; which may be used to provide scale-inhibiting agents which are particularly effective against phosphate scale, and which comprise vinyl alkylolamide sulfate or vinyl alkylolanilide sulfate, polymerized with an alkenyl compound, such as acrylic acid or the like.
