ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides sulfates and sulfo-derivatives of the general formula Image I where X represents a possibly substituted bivalent C1 to C6 alkylene group or a possibly substituted bivalent phenylene group, M represents hydrogen, an alkali metal atom or a corre- sponding equivalent of a bivalent metal, n Is a whole number from 6 to 60 and m is 0 or 1 and to acid zinc electroplating baths containing these compounds. Such baths permit good deposition of metal with minimal foam production.
