Disclosed are alkyl sulfoacetate compositions comprising a sulfonated ester of the formula: RO(CH2CHR1O)nCOCH2SO3M where R represents straight chain alkyl having from about 6 to 20 carbon atoms; R1 is hydrogen, methyl, or ethyl; n is 0, or an integer of from 1 to 20; and M represents a cation; the composition being substantially free from monochloroacetate salts and monochloroacetic acid. These compositions are prepared by reacting an alkyl chloroester of the formula: RO(CH2CHR1O)nCOCH2Cl where R, R1 and n are as defined above with an excess of sodium sulfite in the presence of a sulfitation catalyst at a temperature of at least about 75 ~C. Also disclosed are oral care compositions comprising these surfactant compositions.

Cette invention se rapporte à des compositions de sulfoacétate alkyle, qui contiennent un ester sulfoné représenté par la formule: RO(CH¿2?CHR¿1?O)¿n?COCH¿2?SO¿3?M, dans laquelle R représente un alkyle à chaîne droite ayant 6 à 20 atomes de carbone; R¿1? représente hydrogène, méthyle, ou éthyle; n est égal à 0 ou à un nombre entier compris entre 1 et 20; et M représente un cation; cette composition ne contenant pour ainsi dire pas de sels monochloroacétate ni d'acide monochloroacétique. On prépare ces compositions en faisant réagir un chloroester alkyle représenté par la formule: RO(CH¿2?CHR¿1?O)¿n?COCH¿2?Cl, où R, R¿1? et n ont la notation donnée ci-dessus, avec un excédent de sulfite de sodium en présence d'un catalyseur de sulfitation à une température au moins égale à 75 ~C environ. Cette invention se rapporte également à des compositions pour l'hygiène buccale, qui renferment ces compositions de tensioactifs.
